About

In 2017, Congress killed the FCC's broadband privacy rules. That still holds at the federal level. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can collect browsing and app data and sell it without the opt-in those rules required. Some states added their own rules. Most people are stuck with whatever their ISP promises and whatever tools they install.

Deploy Chaff and your browser opens random product, local, and news searches in a tab. Leave it on to junk up the profile your ISP and ad networks build. Close the browser when you want it to stop.

Chaff is protest noise. It does not make you anonymous or safe.

Ads push what they sell, not what you asked for. If you want real defenses against Internet Service Provider (ISP) and advertiser tracking:

  1. Use HTTPS when a site supports it. Modern browsers already prefer it.
  2. Install Privacy Badger to block trackers.
  3. Support the EFF.
  4. Look at Tor.
  5. Consider a solid VPN.
